WADI QASHA WATERFALL  – 190 m ABSAIL

Trip Overview

Hidden deep in the cliffs of Jebel Akhdar, Wadi Qasha is home to one of the tallest and most spectacular dry waterfalls in Oman. At nearly 190 meters high, this vertical drop offers an adventure few will ever experience: a full descent above one of Oman’s most dramatic mountain.

This is a full-day, physically demanding trip designed for adventure seekers. It combines a scenic mountain drive with a challenging and thrilling canyon descent via abseiling (rappelling). This is not a beginner-friendly adventure and requires prior abseiling experience and going with a certified guide.

To ensure every participant feels comfortable and ready, this adventure includes a training day the day before. You will practice abseiling techniques on a smaller cliff with the same ropes and equipment used in the main descent. By the time you face Wadi Qasha’s towering drop, you’ll already have the skills and confidence to enjoy it to the fullest.

Itinerary

Departure from Muscat

  • 05:30 AM – Pickup from Muscat (designated point).
  • Scenic 2.5–3 hour drive up the winding mountain roads of Jebel Akhdar, passing terraced farms, traditional villages, and panoramic viewpoints.

Arrival & Safety Briefing

  • Receive safety briefing and technical instructions.
  • Gear up with helmets, harnesses, ropes, and protective equipment.
  • Short hike to the top of the Wadi Qasha waterfall.

The Drop

  •  The dry waterfall wall is almost completely vertical, with sections that overhanging.
  • Once past the first 20–30 meters, you’ll feel suspended in open space with nothing but air beneath your feet – a true "free-hanging" abseil experience
  • From here, you’ll descend gradually, controlling your speed with your brake hand, while the guides manage a safety line.

The View

  • As you hang on the rope, the view opens into the vast Wadi Qasha canyon, carved deep into Jebel Akhdar’s limestone mountains.
  • You’ll see cliffs stretching endlessly across the horizon and the winding wadi floor hundreds of meters below.
  • Unlike wet canyoning descents, here you’ll hear only the wind and the echoes of your own voice against the cliffs – a dramatic and humbling experience

Why This Abseil is Unique

  • Height & Scale: At 190 meters, it’s far taller than most abseils accessible in Oman.
  • Dry Conditions: Because it’s a dry waterfall, there’s no spray or slippery surfaces – making it safer for beginners, but still offering full exposure and adrenaline.
  • Free-Hanging Sections: Large parts of the descent are in open air, giving you the rare sensation of floating.
  • Accessible but Remote: Located in the heart of Jebel Akhdar, the site is remote enough to feel wild, yet reachable within a few hours from Muscat.
