Explore one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic trekking routes with this immersive adventure into the Knuckles Mountain Range. This two-day journey will take you through remote jungle paths, across dramatic ridgelines, and up to the summit of all Five Peaks, offering breathtaking panoramic views and a rewarding sense of accomplishment. Spend the night camping in a tranquil forest setting, enjoy hearty local meals, and connect with nature in its rawest form.

This experience is designed for nature enthusiasts, adventurers, and those looking to disconnect from routine and reconnect with the wilderness.

Detailed Itinerary


Day 1 – Travel and Camp Setup

  • 10:00 AM: Departure from Kandy by private vehicle. The drive covers approximately 50 km through scenic hill country roads toward the remote village of Gomaraya.
  • 1:30 PM: Arrival at Kanna’s Place—our campsite nestled at the edge of the Knuckles forest. Guests will be welcomed with a traditional local lunch and given a short orientation about the terrain and camping setup.
  • 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Free time to explore the surroundings or rest. Optional short walk to a nearby viewpoint or waterfall (based on group preference).
  • 5:00 PM: Campsite setup and preparation for the night. Learn basic bushcraft skills and enjoy a peaceful environment surrounded by forest sounds.
  • 7:00 PM: Enjoy a freshly cooked Sri Lankan -style dinner, served by the campfire.
  • 8:00 PM: Group briefing about the Five Peaks hike for the next day. Instructors will explain the route, safety procedures, and gear check.
  • 10:00 PM: Lights out. Rest and prepare for the next day’s early start.


Day 2 – Knuckles Five Peaks Trek

  • 6:00 AM: Wake-up call and a light breakfast with tea/coffee served at camp.
  • 6:30 AM: Begin the ascent toward the Knuckles Five Peaks. This is a moderately challenging trek that involves forest trails, rocky paths, and open ridgelines. Each peak offers unique vantage points, with stunning views over the surrounding valleys and distant highlands.
  • 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Reach the fifth and final peak. Brief rest and photo opportunity before descending.
  • 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM: Return to Kanna’s Place for a well-deserved local lunch. Rest and refresh at the campsite.
  • 1:30 PM – 2:00 PM: Pack up and prepare for departure.
  • 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Return journey to Kandy via private transport. Expected arrival in Kandy by 4:00 PM.

 


What to Bring

  • Two sets of lightweight outdoor clothing (long-sleeved shirts and trousers)
  • Swimwear or quick-dry clothing for optional water activities
  • Personal toiletries and a towel
  • Cap or wide-brimmed hat for sun protection
  • Sunglasses
  • Hiking shoes (comfortable), with sandals or slippers for the campsite
  • Insect/mosquito repellent (mandatory)
  • Headlamp or head torch (mandatory)

  • Personal medication and any essential prescriptions
  • Snacks or high-energy bars (chocolates recommended)
  • 3 litres of water (camelback or reusable bottles)

Clothing Recommendations

  • Footwear: Proper closed shoes with ankle support are strongly recommended. Avoid new or untested shoes.
  • Clothing: Light-coloured, breathable fabrics suitable for tropical forest conditions.
  • Undergarments: Cycle shorts or tight-fitting underlayers are advised to prevent chafing in humid conditions.
  • Outerwear: A light waterproof jacket is optional in case of unexpected rainfall.


Important Notes

  • The hike requires a reasonable level of physical fitness. Participants should be prepared for continuous walking, occasional steep sections, and exposure to natural elements.
  • All guides are highly trained and experienced in wilderness safety.
  • This is a leave-no-trace camping experience. All participants are expected to respect nature and follow eco-friendly practices.
