Trip Overview
Venture deep into the heart of Oman’s subterranean wilderness on a once-in-a-lifetime underground expedition. Designed for experienced outdoor enthusiasts, this two-day journey takes you from the legendary vertical entrance of the 7th Hole cave system all the way through to the majestic Tahri exit — navigating some of the most dramatic and least-accessible terrain in the region.
Combining high-angle rope work, extensive cave navigation, and a rugged surface hike, this adventure is not for the faint of heart. It’s a rare opportunity to challenge your skills, push your physical limits, and sleep 270 meters below the Earth’s surface.
Adventure Breakdown
Day 1 – Descent & Cave Camp
- Depart from the meeting point early morning and arrive at the 7th Hole site
- Begin the technical descent into the cave via three vertical drops:
- 120 meters
- 50 meters
- 100 meters
- Reach the underground campsite located 270 meters below ground
- Set up for the night in a spacious cave chamber
- Enjoy a hot BBQ dinner and team briefing in a surreal underground setting
Day 2 – Traverse to Tahri Cave & Canyon Exit
- Early breakfast at camp, followed by a full day of underground navigation
- Traverse through 9 kilometers of active cave system, including:
- Tight crawls, open galleries, rope sections, and scrambling zones
- A highlight stop at the Crystal Chamber, a breathtaking natural formation
- Emerge at Tahri Cave, then continue with a 6 km surface hike along the canyon rim to the pickup point
- Debrief, refresh, and return via 4x4 convoy
- All group technical equipment (ropes, harnesses, descenders, ascenders, helmets, etc.)
- Certified cave guides and rope technicians
- Safety briefing and support throughout the trip
- Water and high-energy snacks for both days
- BBQ dinner on Day 1 and breakfast on Day 2
- Underground sleeping bags provided at cave camp
- First Aid and emergency response readiness
To ensure safety and group efficiency, this expedition is open only to individuals who meet the following:
- Strong physical fitness and endurance
- Previous experience in abseiling and rope ascending
(Note: A discounted training session is available at Sa’al Cave prior to the expedition) - 4x4 vehicle required for transport to and from the remote locations
- Minimum age: 18
